O aumento da demanda mundial por água tratada, impulsionado pela população crescente, pelas mudanças climáticas e pela contaminação química e biológica dos recursos hídricos, comprovado em uma redução significativa na disponibilidade de água. É essencial encontrar alternativas sustentáveis de baixo custo para fornecer água potável. A destilação solar torna-se uma das melhores opções para fornecer água potável. Este artigo tem como propósito mostrar ao leitor o contexto da dessalinização solar, ressaltando seus benefícios ambientais, econômicos e sociais, e estabelecer uma base sólida para a revisão de processos de dessalinização via energia solar. Portanto, foi possível concluir que o sistema de dessalinização solar é uma ótima opção para a produção de água dessalinizada para comunidades em que a demanda de água não é elevada e onde existe uma alta incidência de radiação solar para fornecer água dentro dos padrões de potabilidade.
