The SWERA project (Solar and Wind Resource Assessment) aims at fostering the insertion of renewable energy in the energy matrix of developing countries, through assembling high quality information to support technical and economic evaluations of solar and wind energy projects. This work shows the exercise of evaluating the installation of a parabolic trough power plant at the northeast region of Brazil, using the SEGS VI plant configuration as reference. The results are compared to other studies found in literature, which do not use the SWERA database. Through an economic analysis it is possible to quantify the differences found in terms of LCOE (Levelized cost of energy). This exercise is complemented with two additional analyses, where the hybridization by a fossil fuel and thermal storage are considered. All these analysis allows estimate the interval where the normative value of electricity from parabolic trough should be defined, in order to be economically feasible.
