Abstract

Because of the need for energy increasing for production processes and for extending comfort to the communities, allied to the restrictions that have been imposed to the use of systems that emit CO2, the application of photovoltaic (PV) to generate electric power has increased greatly in recent years, especially those systems connected to the grid. The main problems of grid-connected PV systems are the harmonic distortion, inter-harmonics, the islanding, the deviations of frequency, and also the system's behavior under the deformations of the power quality of the network effects, such as momentary undervoltage (sag), momentary interruptions (dip), swells, voltage fluctuation (flicker), voltage transients (notches), transients and noise. The aim of this paper is to present the most important international normative technical and gather several discussions about this topic with some suggestions to minimize or even solve the problems. Moreover, due to the fact that power generators are connected to the power grid, requirements are analyzed to protect the safety of people, facilities and equipment.
