Abstract

The present paper focuses the simulation and economical optimization a solar domestic hot water systems conjugated to electric shower heads in Brazil. The solar systems currently proposed, to reduce the peak of electric energy demand due to the intensive use of shower heads, is proved to be not effective. The reason is that the energy peak always occurs, in the circumstance of adverse climate conditions of low solar energy availability. It is suggested here an innovative concept of solar system, controlled in such a way that auxiliary energy is stored in the early hours of the morning, in order to supply the expected daily energy demand. This system can be achieved, in the circumstance the solar day could be predicted by neural algorithms, conjugated to weather forecast current physical models. The proposed system may be advantageous for low income shower head users in Brazil, in the lights of the reduction of investments in electric energy generation, transmission and distribution to support the peak demand due to electric showers. On the other hand, such a system may provide valuable information to the government energy policy planners, in order to help them in setting up consisted policies, in the interest of solar systems manufacturers, as well as the shower heads users. The paper also focuses the economical optimization of the solar systems considered, with respect to the thermal insulation of the heat reservoir.
