This paper aims to estimate the potential for solar photovoltaic generation from the real situation of buildings and their energy consumption in the Campus II of CEFET-MG in Belo Horizonte. It quantified the total energy demand for a year and also on a daily basis. The available roof areas were calculated and integrated with PV systems. The buildings have a favorable orientation, with the largest solar facades facing true north, allowing greater solar energy generation during the year. Calculations were performed in order to estimate the energy possible to be produced by a hypothetical system. To quantify the areas of coverage, the existing architecture, location and orientation of buildings, shading and higher energy demands were considered. The influences of the solar modules tilt in architecture and the existing levels of solar radiation through the software RADIASOL were identified. It was observed that there isn’t significant variation of solar radiation daily averages between the slopes of the tilted plane of 15 and 22 degrees. To better integrate the existing architecture the inclination of 15 degrees was chosen. A PV system technology that fits best to supply the current demand was identified. A PV system of polycrystalline silicon cells would be able to generate enough electricity to supply the energy demand of the Campus II of CEFET-MG and could become an interesting alternative and object of future investment.
