Photovoltaic solar energy as renewable energy source has many different uses. One of them is the photovoltaic systems integrated at commercial buildings, because in the most of the times, the demand curve is coincident to the solar generation curve due to the air conditioners use. The building integrated PV system (BIPV) is becoming more important day by day in the whole world and it could be an interesting way to the Brazilian distributed energy generation. Airport buildings are typically big and sunny, with no significant shadows, with perfect roofs and façades to accommodate photovoltaic solar modules. The present article aims to analyze the energy contribution of BIPV using different photovoltaic technologies integrated at the architecture. For this, it was selected six Brazilian airports, in five cities (Florianópolis, Brasília, São Paulo, Guarulhos e Rio de Janeiro) located at different regions of the country. For the BIPV simulations, it was used monthly energy consumption date of one year for each airport. Photovoltaic solar generation was calculated based on solar radiation data for each city and it was based on each technology’s efficiency. Considering the different photovoltaic technologies available at the market and each building’s integration, it was observed that, in the best case, the total generated energy could contribute with 50%, in average, of the total energy consumption of one year. Using photovoltaic technology in big areas causes big installed potentials, and it can stimulate the growth of the Brazilian photovoltaic market. Moreover, this growth market can provide cost reductions and attracts investors and manufactures of this technology.
