EMBARCAÇÃO ELÉTRICA ALIMENTADA POR ENERGIA SOLAR FOTOVOLTAICA

n November of 2009 with the intention of participating in the Brazilian Solar Challenge, the first national competition of boats powered by solar energy, the electric boat called Vento Sul was constructed. This catamaran, 6 meters in length and 2,40 meters in width, has only one crew member and is fed exclusively by sunlight. This article, describes the construction techniques, in addition to the details of the energy management strategies aspects that have led the team to be champion of the competition. The tests that were carried out and the data collected during the competition are presented and a case is made for a more widespread use of electric vehicles in Brazil.
