EFFICIENT HOME FOR THE AMAZON REGION

This paper describes the implantation of an energy efficient house in the Brazilian Amazonian region, which consist in a single-family house, designed following constructive principles proper to the region, using architectonic solutions and systems adequate to the local climate, to provide maximum efficiency, comfort and low energy consumption. The building is part of an area called “Parque de Energias Renováveis” (Renewable Energy Park), which was designed to be built in a area belonging to “Centrais Elétricas do Norte do Brasil – ELETRONORTE”, in the urban area of Tucuruí, a city located in Pará state, in the mouth of Amazon river. Its geographic coordinates are 03° 49’S e 49° 40’W. The project brings innovations, such as integrated systems to provide energy efficiency and thermal comfort, which is included technologies such as photovoltaic’s system connected to the power grid, passive cooling, the use of the natural illumination, natural cross ventilation and solar water heating. In addition to strategies for efficient water use, such as the domestic wastewater treatment, the rainwater use, and the utilization of low water consumption equipments.
