The aims of this study were to analyze the climatology of the atmospheric transmissivity of UV radiation (KTUV) in Botucatu/SP/Brazil and the influence of sugarcane burning on the KTUV. The Botucatu city (considered rural) is located in region characterized by the production of sugarcane and it is one of the few cities in São Paulo State that monitors UV radiation for over 10 years. The sugarcane burning in São Paulo State is held during the period from May to November with the aim to facilitate manual harvesting the stalks. Among the environmental impacts generated by the sugarcane burning there is the increase in the concentration of aerosols in the atmosphere, environmental change capable of reducing the KTUV. From the observed results, it was found that the KTUV in Botucatu is lower in summer months (December to February), due to the increased cloudiness, and highest in April and August, months where there is predominance of clear sky conditions. The sugarcane burning in São Paulo State changes less the aerosol optical depth in the visible range (AOD550) in Botucatu than the fires in the north and center-west regions of Brazil. In the months of greatest frequency of sugarcane burning in the region around Botucatu, the increase in AOD550 values close to 0.13 generates reductions of ~11% in the KTUV. From August to October, when the increase in AOD550 is caused by the sugarcane burning and fires in other states of Brazil, the reduction in the KTUV is up to 22%.
