Abstract

This paper describes fundamentals of model GL version 1.2 and results of its application to estimation of solar insolation at ground level over South American area, by using high resolution GOES VIS imagery. It was generated an extended database which includes binary files containing GL monthly average and standard deviation in high spatial resolution (0,04º  0,04º) for period 2000-2013, as well as a data matrix with 0,4º 0,4º resolution and time series of 5-days averages, period 1996-2012. Both types of file are available directly for download at webpage of Solar and Terrestrial Radiation http://satelite.cptec.inpe.br/radiacao/. Data base is highly valuable for climatic and energy studies.
