Abstract

After the issue of the resolution ANEEL nº482/201 2, in 17th of april 2012, and considering the increase of the electric energy tariffs over the last two years, the number of consumers that have interest in installing distributed generation systems with net metering is growing each year. There are several companies that have started the commercialization of photovoltaic systems, usually informing a payback time ranging from 5 to 7 years. It has been observed that the information about the maximum price in national currency that the system should cost in order to be economically viable is scarce. The growing market of residential grid connected photovoltaic systems is still characterized by a considerable variation of the prices for the whole system, including equipments, project and installation. Regarding this context, it was performed an amortization simulation to estimate the price that a grid connected photovoltaic system of 1500 Wp should cost to be economically viable. The system would be paid by a loan with amortization accomplished by the economy from the energy generated by the photovoltaic system. The values were calculated for three Brazilian cities, Santa Maria in Rio Grande do Sul, Bom Jesus da Lapa - Bahia and Belo Horizonte - Minas Gerais. The results indicated that the current prices of the system do not allow the amortization time to be as low as expected. A low interest financial program is crucial to reach a reasonable amortization time.
