This paper presents methodologies for the monetary valuation of the impacts of photovoltaic generation on distribution system losses. The value of losses is obtained by calculating the power flow in different scenarios. Beyond a baseline or reference case, in which no distributed photovoltaic generation is considered, four different scenarios are studied. These scenarios differ on the location of the PV generator on the system. Two valuation methodologies are considered. In the first method, the relation between energy losses and the installed capacity of the distributed generator is represented. The second technique allows observing the reduction or the increase of the average cost of power purchase to meet those losses. Several simulations are conducted from Adelaide feeder substation circuit, located in the city of Belo Horizonte. Obtained results indicate that the generating unit location, the generator injection level and the power system topology influence the variation of the system losses, as well as the monetary value of these losses.
