Abstract

This works aims to show the definitions concerning the Potential Induced Degradation phenomena, which may affect some photovoltaic technologies installed at large scale high voltage photovoltaic generators. The effect can be reversible and some registers points out its occurrence in systems installed worldwide. It is not easily perceptible by the operators because sometimes it is most alike the natural degradation in terms of performance loss. This works presents the consequences of the phenomena on different levels of the system and shows solutions to diagnose and revert the effect at the modules affected. At last, some comments are made regarding the IEC standard that is being developed.
