Abstract

This work presents a parametric analysis of a CSP power plant with parabolic trough in a combined cycle ( ISCC ) for tri-generation (cooling through an absorption cycle, low quality process heat and electricity) in Bom Jesus da Lapa. The international literature shows that costs for centralized CSP plants are still unable to compete in the energy market in Brazil and in the world without incentive policies. And also that cogeneration with CSP technologies are still under R&D programs. That’s why this paper proposes a tri-generation power plant as a government R&D investment. The work proposes to verify the technical feasibility of a CSP ISCC power plant for tri-generation that generates energy for a medium size hospital in Bom Jesus da Lapa. The plant is designed to meet the hospital cooling needs for the hottest day on a year. The simulations are made for three days: the hottest one, the coldest one, and a cloud day with a lot of DNI variations during the daily hours. The analysis are made for a plant without thermal storage and with 3-hour thermal capacity. The results indicate that the hospital would be self-sufficient and also would generates more than double of its produced electricity. This electricity would be available for selling in market.
