Abstract

The composition of the Brazilian electric matrix is undergoing significant changes due to the growing potential of solar energy generation in recent years. With this rapid advancement, a continuous increase in the number of solar modules reaching the end of their useful life is expected, driving the emergence of recycling companies to meet this emerging demand. A major transport challenge identified in the photovoltaic recycling sector in Brazil is the significant disparity between customers with smaller disposal volumes and those with larger volumes. This work aims to develop a business model capable of addressing the small collection demands of photovoltaic modules for recycling, within the context of a photovoltaic module recycling company in the country. Brazilian municipalities were segmented through data collection and normalization, using the decision matrix methodology. This analysis led to the identification of the most advantageous municipality for a test implementation of the proposed business model. To develop the strategy, the premise of the four elements of business model development from the British Standards Institution was used, along with the creation of a mind map and the Business Model Canvas tool. Florianópolis emerged as the most favorable municipality for the application of the proposed business model, extending in the future to Brazilian municipalities with a high concentration of distributed solar energy generation. The developed strategy involves the establishment of a Solar Module Delivery Point. This article describes the steps involved in the proposed business model. Although the study presents a comprehensive strategy, there are limitations such as the lack of specific data on average module transportation costs and profitability per recycled material sold.
