Abstract

With the growing concern regarding the climate change, attached to the energy transition, it is possible to see a soar in the installed capacity of renewable sources all around the world. Nevertheless, some sources are not dispatchable without battery, such as solar photovoltaics or wind energy. In this case, concentrated solar power with thermal storage shows itself as a viable solution. Nevertheless, project’s simulations of this kind of technology required the so-called typical meteorological year, with a time series of at least 10 years of measurements, which can be a liability for some locations. Hence, an alternative is to use satellite or reanalysis data. This work aimed to analyze the similarity between data measure locally in a solar station located in the University of São Paulo campus in the city of Pirassununga, with the reanalysis data from ERA5, for a base-year. The assessment consisted of error indicators, distribution similarity indicators, as well as visual indicators. The results presented differences between the data for all indicators, with a strong underestimation of reanalysis data for the base-year winter months, which results in a large divergence between simulated and real data.
