The need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, together with advances in communication and information technologies, has driven the successful expansion of various types of shared generation communities with prosume’s nature. This has opened up space for the creation of new and promising business models. Among these models, peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions stand out, once it is able to meet local needs for entrepreneurship, employment, income and ancillary services, while contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions required by the global climate crisis. The aim of this article is to carry out a systematic and bibliometric review of trends in the application of the P2P model as a platform for transacting electricity generated from photovoltaic (PV) microsystems. To this end, publications from 2015 onwards were reviewed, totaling 40 scientific articles. Through the review of these articles, their areas of focus were determined, addressing the benefits of implementing the P2P model, its drivers, barriers and challenges, case studies and future directions. Of the articles selected, 25% focus on business model analysis, 17,5% explore the impacts of P2P energy trading, 45% address applications, challenges and opportunities and 12,5% are related to the technologies employed in this type of business model. Specifically for Brazil, the authors recommend research capable of mapping individual archetypal energy production and consumption profiles of PV roof adopters, as well as their willingness to become prosumers. It is hoped that such research will foster socio-technical innovations in the electricity sector, providing consumers with greater autonomy, ability to trade, and options for innovatively managing their relationships with energy.
