Abstract

There is a challenge in estimating the diffuse and direct fractions of global solar irradiance at solarimetric stations that do not have equipment for direct measurement of these components. Decomposition models of global irradiance have been used in these cases for the empirical determination of its diffuse fraction, with varying degrees of success. This work presents a performance analysis of the Erbs and Engerer radiation decomposition models for some solarimetric stations of the SONDA network over Brazil. The chosen stations were those of Petrolina, Cachoeira Paulista, and São Martinho da Serra. The results showed that although the Engerer model exhibits better metrics in terms of linear regression (R2 with values 0.02 higher), for cases with solar zenith angles less than 60 degrees, the Erbs model exhibited better results.
